The National Zoological Gardens of Sri Lanka, also known as Dehiwala Zoo, is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Asia. Established in 1936, it is located in Dehiwala, Colombo, and spans 10.1 hectares. The zoo is home to over 3,000 animals across 350 species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and aquatic life.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a captive breeding and conservation center for wild Asian elephants, located in Pinnawala village, 13 km northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province. Established in 1975, it is home to the largest herd of captive elephants in the world, with 71 elephants as of 2023.
