Peradeniya Junction Railway Station is a historic and strategic railway station located in Peradeniya, near Kandy, in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. Opened in 1867, it serves as a key junction connecting the Main Line (Colombo to Badulla) and the Matale Line (Peradeniya to Matale via Kandy).
Situated approximately 115 km from Colombo Fort and at an elevation of 476 meters, the station features a triangular track configuration, allowing trains to switch lines without reversing—a rare and efficient setup in Sri Lanka Railways. It has three platforms, with Platform 3 dedicated to inbound and outbound Main Line services.
