University of Colombo

Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) is the largest free pediatric hospital in Sri Lanka, located in Colombo. It serves as the national referral center for pediatric care and is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the world, with over 1,200 beds. Established in 1910, LRH provides 24/7 emergency and outpatient services, specialized pediatric treatments, and acts as a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Colombo.

The National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), located in Colombo, is the country’s largest and oldest government hospital, established in 1864. Spanning over 32 acres, it serves as the final referral center and largest teaching hospital in Sri Lanka, affiliated with the University of Colombo. With over 3,400 beds, 18 ICUs, and 21 operating theatres, NHSL handles millions of outpatient visits and thousands of surgeries annually. It’s a hub for specialized care in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, surgery, psychiatry, and more, and also houses training schools for nursing, radiography, physiotherapy, and pharmacy.

The University of Colombo, established in 1921, holds the distinction of being the oldest higher education institution in Sri Lanka. Situated in the heart of Colombo, the university spans a sprawling 50-acre campus, featuring a blend of modern urban infrastructure and historical colonial architecture. Renowned for its academic rigor and excellence, the university offers diverse programs across disciplines such as natural sciences, social sciences, law, and technology.
